A visualisation of the Universal cycle: the lower part is the physical world, the outer upper parts higher non-physical states. The central upper core represents the Ground Luminosity, the Implicate Order, the Cosmic Unconscious, call it what you will. From this core, all other states are fed by a narrow thread; feedback loops return that which is spent.
The epic proportions of this Apophysis flame are partly accidental: too much detail and subtle texture was lost on downsizing. But given the subject matter, it seems appropriate
Thanks for the comment and - interesting that you use the word "unsettling". I took a look with the word in mind and think I understand: there's a feeling that you're seeing something that you shouldn't be able to see, and the fear that a return to what was once regarded as a precious normality is now not possible.
When I look at it again I see similarities to some of Dali's paintings. Some of the greatest art has this capacity to 'unsettle' eg: Goya. I hope I haven't spoiled your enjoyment of the picture by my comment. I think it is about the best I have seen.

Noooo, you haven't spoiled it at all, I greatly appreciate this kind of feedback I think I see what you mean about Dali - some areas of the piece seem to float above the rest, a little like the famous clocks do. And I agree that it should indeed be one of Art's duties to unsettle - I'm a fan of Bacon's, and his work is often extremely so.
okay my friend, now I'm better again I can comment properly on this wonderful fractal. I very much like the complexity of this piece. it's as if this fractal consists of so many parts you can look ages at it and still discover new things. also the red-brown colours are very well chosen and make this piece look like a rotten skeleton. this piece reminds me by the way of "behind door number one" [link] and "denial" [link] by onebadpenny [link]
one of the better fractals around here, no doubt! and a very well deserved
Hey! Glad you're feeling better - I can certainly see a link with 'Denial' as there are 2 distinct parts to it, the other perhaps less so, but they're both outstanding fractals, so I'm more than happy with the comparison The gradient was just a built-in one, but I had to adjust so that it spanned all transforms properly - that's one minor annoyance I've come across recently in Apophysis: inherited colour distributions. I was certainly stunned by the level of detail on the final render - just couldn't bear to lose it, so it's HUGE!
Anyway, many thanks for the comments and - in this way, we all learn more
i very much like your description/explanation of this piece...
i read some of the comments - great...
